…what is this the “Summer of”? Went to a very thought provoking exhibit at the DeYoung in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Summer of Love. https://deyoung.famsf.org/summer-love-art-fashion-and-rock-roll?gclid=EAIaIQobChMItI3W-tLM1QIVDG5-Ch2iGwl1EAAYASAAEgLS1_D_BwE (it’s there until August 20th).
Going to the library
I always find something inspiring at my local library, even if it’s not something to read. (like this Princess flower bush planted next to the parking lot.)
Patience and Fortitude
Those are the names of the two lions guarding the great New York Public Library, where I went on a recent visit back East. Patience & Fortitude; good advice for life and writing!
“Ideas are like rabbits….”
“…You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen.” ~ John Steinbeck Visited the lovely Steinbeck Center in Salinas. Inspiring on many levels. http://steinbeck.org/
SF locations abound in Emerson Mysteries…
Richard “don’t call me Dick” Emerson, SF Missing Persons Detective, is on the case! Locations in Book One include: The Palace Hotel, Pied Piper Bar, Esalen and Tadich Grill. Book Two in progress! ~ Featuring scenes at Red’s Java House and The Pacific Union Club among other locations….
“Some see a weed…
…Some see a wish.” ~ author unkown
“Just write every day of your life…
…Read intensely. Then see what happens…” Ray Bradbury I’ve started a daily habit of “free writing” for 30 minutes, first thing every morning. Free association, no editing, no censoring. It helps me to get ideas flowing for the day.
“History is the stories we tell…”
“Most of us think that history is the past. It’s not. History is the stories we tell about the past. That’s all it is. Stories…” from “The Inconvenient Indian” by Thomas King https://www.amazon.ca/Inconvenient-Indian-Curious-Account-America-ebook/dp/B008ADBXUK/ref=dp_kinw_strp_1/136-6765871-1743624 Very thought provoking book.
Sometimes you just need to take yourself to the beach…
…and let your characters sort things out themselves.
“So I said to him…
…what part of NO don’t you understand?” (conversation between two women, as we passed each other on the street.) Working on improving dialogue in my fiction writing. I wonder what these two dudes on the Greek vase are talking about?
Who is this woman?
Went to the Monet exhibit in San Francisco. The woman in the painting is Monet’s wife. This image is still haunting me. What’s her story?
Avoid Negative People
Toxic individuals can derail you faster than almost anything, if you let them.
